Five things!

This seems to be the latest meme to be going around and after a week it’s got to me, courtesy of Lyle. Anyone can take part, and for those of you who haven’t seen it yet, here are the rules:

  1. If you want to participate, leave a comment saying “interview me.”
  2. I will respond by asking you five questions – each person’s will be different.
  3. You will update your journal with the answers to the questions.
  4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview others in the same post.
  5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

So here goes with the questions that Lyle asked me.

1. You are allowed one day of being a law-maker. What becomes legal/illegal?
This could take some time! Do you mind if I adapt some existing laws too? Okay, here goes…

  • Extend licensing hours to be more like Spain
  • Decriminalise cannabis
  • Illegal to smoke in places where food is served
  • Change property purchase laws to be like Scotland (ie an offer on a house is legally binding)
  • Change property purchase laws so that vendor has to pay for first survey on they house they are selling
  • Change voting system to proportional representation
  • Compulsory parenting classes – or possibly even parenting licenses – for new parents. (To stop all the bad parents rather than the good ones like the ones who come here and read this! :0D )
  • Cycling without a helmet would become illegal
  • Cycling on pavements would become even more illegal
  • Review all the laws that gave all the power to children and revoke them so that our teachers can do a better job – and if that means bringing back corporal punishment, so be it!
  • Illegal to buy anything from McDonalds
  • Street preaching, irrespective of faith, would be illegal
  • Fox hunting as a sport would be illegal
  • There would be a staturatory minimum number of paid holidays that all companies based in Britain would have to give their permanent staff. I suggest 25 days.
  • It would be illegal for BT to refuse to upgrade all their exchanges to Broadband
  • Being Ken Livingstone would be illegal

Hmmm – don’t seem to be making a lot legal. But then again, we haven’t even begun to touch on other changes to policies, taxing and sentencing for crimes. Mind you, better make it a short day I’m given because I have a feeling I could make Stalin look like an alright guy!

2. What things make you happy?
Nothing much – I’m a miserable bastard!

Alright, so I’m lying. Plenty makes me happy:

  • Loving and being loved
  • Good, fulfilling sex
  • Diving
  • The beauty of nature
  • Learning a new skill
  • Travelling and exploring (by which I don’t mean the act of travelling but the actual being somewhere new)
  • Revenge
  • Dope
  • Watching good films
  • Socialising (having a laugh) with friends
  • Writing
  • Meeting new and interesting people

This is beginning to read like my CV!

(Oh, and one of those may not be entirely true – can you guess which it is?)

3. Is there a funny side to everything?
Not sure. My instinct says “No, absolutely not” I think that some things are too serious. But it all depends on what aspect you find funny. The horror of something like the continued killing of innocent Iraqi civilians by Allied soldiers (as I don’t want to just dob the US in on this one) isn’t funny in itself, but there’s a wry ironic humour to be found in the fact that it’s happening. September 11th wasn’t funny – but events surrounding it gave rise to some very funny comedy. (A British female muslim comedian started her stand up show by introducing herself – “Hello. My name is (whatever – I forget). Or at least that’s what it says on my pilots license!”). I think humour can be used to make serious points so from that point of view, yes, there is a funny side to everything.

4. What is the thing you would most want to change about yourself (not necessarily cosmetic, although that’s allowed too – just don’t say “bigger knob” :-) )
A smaller knob! ;-)

But seriously! I’d like to be braver, have more courage. I can be quite a shy person but I know how to act like I’m not so I’d like to have more genuine confidence in myself. I’d like to take more risks and chase my dreams and desires rather than let them slip by me.

5. If hairstyles and personalities truly are connected, what does yours say about you?
If that’s the case then I’d have virtually no personality. So let’s rethink this. Hmmmm… no-fussing, no-nonsense, direct and what you see is what you get.

Did it have to be accurate representation of my personality or just what my hair “style” says about me?

The hairstyles/personalities one was a kind of nick from Timbuk3 (who also did “future so bright I’ve gotta wear shades”) about whether hairstyles and attidues were connected, and how they relate.

Stonking set of laws, by the way!

Me me me! I’ve resisted this meme for a bit, but I think it could be entertaining. At the least, it could chop off this writer’s block I’ve had for a bit. Care to come up with anything to ask me?

Don’t think it’s limited to one on one so if you want in interview, I’d be happy to do one for you!

I’ve already done an interview for Traces, but I’d love to do another ;)

What can I say? I’m in need of distraction

OK – my questions for those that replied…

    Cranky:

    1. Not to bring up bad memories, but what are your top 3 favourite Disneys ride and why?
    2. You’ve just won the lottery. After buying a house and a car, you have $250,000 left. What’s the first thing you do?
    3. What background, if any, do you have on your workspace? What does it say about you?
    4. If there was one event in your life you could go back and change, what would it be?
    5. Was there anybody in your childhood who inspired you? How and why?

    Eliza:

    1. What are your two favourite pictures (paintings or photos) – one should be one of your own. Wny?
    2. You’ve been wondering about blogging a lot recently but still carry on. What would make you stop blogging?
    3. You’ve been given a single ticket to anywhere in the world (with optional return if you want). Where would you go? Why?
    4. The thing that you think is going to go wrong with your uni application is this: you can go back, but you can either do History or Drama, not both. Which would you choose and why? (BTW – don’t worry about it. Nothing will go wrong that you won’t be able to sort out.)
    5. What fifth question would you ask yourself? What’s the answer?
