The New Galactic Empire

I have been attempting to write this post for, well, the best part of the whole of November now. It was my view, opinion and comment about SOE’s recent overhaul of SWG with their “New Game Experience” or NGE (offically announced here.)

The whole event, in my humble yet ever so loud opinion, can only be fairly described as a complete and utter fiasco. That’s not to say that the changes aren’t needed nor, indeed, to say that the concept of the NGE is not a welcome one. I’d go so far as to say that in principle, I thoroughly approve of the changes. A new non-turn based combat system is potentially more involving and more exciting. Reducing the number of classes can only mean that less development time is spent trying to revamp/balance those classes and more time spent adding new content and fixing the not inconsiderable amount of outstanding bugs. But in this case, SOE’s implementation of the new system was hampered by PPP; Piss Poor Planning.

Quiet round here, innit!

I am trying to reinstate the two missing months from this blog (that’s the months I actually wrote in rather than the hiatus months, in case you’re wondering) and am loathe to add anything substantial until I do. This means any comments about the NGE taking place over in Star Wars: Galaxies or about current affairs may be a little untimely (although let me say this: breast feeding is far more natural and good for you than many, many things we witness every day on our streets so if you feel that you are someone who might be offended by the sight of a first time mother breast feeding her child in public and that you might complain to the police about it FUCK OFF RIGHT NOW AND DON’T YOU DARE COME BACK TO THIS SITE. EVER. AGAIN!*)

If anyone has any tips on how to import a selection of Wordpress posts and comments which have been exported into an SQL file, I’m all ears.

*If ever there was a parlimentary bill that I would support, it would be the one proposed by Stafford MP, David Kidney. And once again I feel we should follow Scotland’s lead and make it an offence to prevent women from breast feeding in public places

Concerning Life

While drinking at the pub tonight, I learnt that there are only 3 (three) salient topics of conversation:

Death, Birth and DIY.

Todays World (Tomorrows Utopia)

The internet may well be shit, but every now and then you find a pure sparkling gem in the rough.

Please do not adjust your set

The slight downtime in service delivery was not because I had been arrested but because I’d messed up changing the DNS of my servers.

Having rectified the situation, I now find that the copy of my site on the new server is from about two months ago. Either that or I really was abducted by aliens and have had my memory wiped.

Normal functioning will, er, function shortly.

Serenity (USA, 2005)

Joss Whedon could definitely teach George Lucas a thing or two! There’s a space battle during Serenity that was considerably shorter than the one at the beginning of Episode 3 and also very obviously done on a budget. And yet it was far more exciting than anything that appeared in that movie. Now I might be biased, being the Whedonite that I am, but meh, so what.

Caution: Men at work

Been quiet for a couple of days because I’ve been making like Handy Andy and doing a bucket load of DIY this week. The nursery is just about finished!

One of the advantages of living in an older house (35 years old or so I believe) is that it’s built out of good materials. I used to live in a house that, frankly, the Big Bad Wolf would have had no problem huffing and puffing and blowing it down should he ever get refused in an invitation to dinner. The problem I have now is that I go through several masonry drill bits whenever I put put up curtain rails because the lintels are solid. Absolutely rock solid in the true meaning of the phrase.

The solution has been 4mm Pirhana drill bits followed by standard 5/6mm bits. Still takes nearly 10 minutes for an inch deep hole but the frustration is a little less. An hour later and job done.

I feel manly today.
