D: Kthxbye.
#2. Monday PM
RC2: Dragon, you know that well paid job that we put your CV forward for?
D: Yes?
RC2: Well, I’ve a couple of things to mention about it.
D: Go on.
RC2: First, it’s not as well paid as we made it out to be.
D: I see.
RC: Second, they’d like to do a telephone interview with you.
D: Okay.
RC: In the next hour.
D: Ah.

RC2: Dragon, RC2. They liked you.
D: Cool! Second interview?
RC2: No. Three month contract, start on monday.
D: Woah! Excellent.
RC2: In Dublin.
D: …
Anyone know any cheap places to stay in Dublin?

Well, aside from “my couch”, no, there are NO cheap places to stay in Dublin.
If you’re really, REALLY stuck, you can have my couch though. Or alternatively, the spare room. For a day or two. If you bring presents.
And not the good spare room, the crappy one with the sofabed, the one that doubles as an office.
OR, you could look at daft.ie

Something to consider. How good are your cooked breakfasts?
Comment by Dragon — November 29, 2006 @ 9:53 am
Fark, that’s moving fast!
Congratulations, and all that - but I bet Herself isn’t too chuffed at you being away during the week, what with sproglet and all…

It was her idea! I wasn’t going to put my CV forward for it but she persuaded me that it could be a good opportunity.
But yeah, it’s not the best situation. Still, festering season in Dublin can’t be bad.

I don’t do cooked breakfasts dude, I’m a veggie.
I do a mean fried egg sambo though. And my french toast is “award winning”.
Comment by Matt — November 29, 2006 @ 10:54 pm
Ah, fairy nuff.
Are they making you spend the festering season over there? That’s a bit harsh…
Comment by Lyle — November 29, 2006 @ 11:41 pm
Not actually over the holiday itself - I meant for the preamble and party bit of the season.

Hi there,
Just found your site – nice stuff!
Thought you might like to know that a video interview I did with Simon, Alice Even and John-Baptiste is live on the site I am Entertainment Editor for (it launched yesterday!). I manage the more fun/blogging aspect of the site.
Check it out (and start your own blog) here: http://www.seatwaveblogs.com
I’m also a radio presenter (Grass Roots on Xstreameast Radio Station). Last night an extended version of the interview was on the show. The second half (there’s 20 mins of it!!) will be on next week. For now, people can listen to the archive for yesterday’s. It should be uploaded by Monday. For more info etc see: http://www.myspace.com/thebigsmoke_katie
The radio show can be accessed at: www.xstreameast.co.uk
Please feel free to post this on your blog etc as other Pegg fans may be interested!

Hello Katie, thanks for commenting.
The joy of the internet is that it’s very much like an elephant: it never forgets. It’s been quite a while since this place was known as Simon Pegg’s Stalker and it was never a fan site as the title was purely ironic (in the correct sense of the word).
Still, nice of you to pop by and up your link count. I’m sure some people might visit.
Take care.

Graciously handled there…
And congrats on the Dublin thing, I think it could be a jolly time in the lead up to Christmas.

Congratulations.
As a matter of interest, given the direction that Notes development has been taking for a while (and to which you alluded in your last post) what are you training-up as a potential exit strategy? I suspect that I see hints at your direction from some of your recent techie posts?

That’s a good question and one I’ve done very little about. Generally I’m trying to update my web technologies altogether. PHP is a good language and I like it a lot but it’s not been adopted as a major corporate language yet although with Oracle taking it on, that may give it the gravitas to move into a mainstream arena. Web services, .Net, that sort of thing, seem to be where things are moving.
However, Notes is by no means dead nor is it going to be for a while.
Comment by Dragon — December 9, 2006 @ 11:55 am
I don’t think Notes is dead, but I think that you were right to point out the extent to which its development seems aimed at straight-out-of-the-box and user-configurable functionality. I’ve done a bit of it myself, while on a contract at the Bank of Scotland.
I really meant it more as part of the broader contractor mindset: I was always terrified enough to have a backup option. I mainly work in Java, but I do most of my playing in the .Net framework, simply because I am paranoid that the Java platform could go teh way of VB6: suddenly made obsolescent by fiat. Or even by Fiat, in an unlikely turn of events.

Congratulations! I keep seeing php and ruby on rails being mentioned when the “what should I add to my skillset” question comes up.
And the sprogndog video is wonderful, what’s the soundtrack?
