Now for something a little more controversial.

This mystifies me enough to be included under the Bloghuh heading and no doubt it will evolve/degenerate into a post of it’s own.

Why do people talk about saving the planet? Why? Just why?

These days we’re inundated with messages and instructions to recycle, conserve energy, reduce carbon emissions and be more environmentally friendly. All in the name of “saving the planet”.

Well heads up! The planet doesn’t need our help.

Did you know that the ice caps are melting? “Oh noes!” I hear you cry! Well it’s true. They are. But guess what - 6 million years ago, the ice caps as we know them didn’t even exist. And you know how the world is getting warmer? It ain’t as hot as it was 65 million years ago at the end of the Cretaceous period, just before the dinosaurs died out. And that was the cool bit of that particular epoch.

Ah ha! But what about the CO2 levels in the atmosphere, caused by all the crap we’ve been pumping into the air for the last 200 years? It’s noticeable, that’s for sure but guess what? CO2 levels? Higher 65+million years ago.

The thing is that whatever we can throw at the planet, the planet will carry on and survive. We, on the other hand, probably won’t. Game over, thanks for playing and let’s see what you could have won!

So next time you’re doing your bit to save the planet, just remember this: you’re not doing it to save the planet, you’re doing it to save yourself.
