Accessibility Standards

Does anyone have any links to a good cheat sheet for making a website accessible to W3C WCAG - AA Compliance standards? I’m using Bobby as a testing tool but want a crib sheet or similar that’s not full of the WAI legalese and is easy for a simple minded developer like myself to understand.

Rupert Murdoch invades Azeroth

This is slowly filtering through the metaverse. In what can only be considered a marketing coup, Blizzard are hitting the mainstream by getting a 14 day free trial of World of Warcraft distributed with this coming Saturday’s copy of The Times. And not just the trial either - they’re also giving away an eight page game guide to get players started.

The Times. Giving away a video game guide.

Reiteration

Police are today strongly urging residents of the Forest Woods area to heed security advice following a number of attempted burglaries that have been reported at homes across the region over the past three weeks. In each incident, the owners of the targeted homes had been on holiday and returned to discover the break-ins although, to date, there have been no significant thefts. Local Crime Prevention Officers have advised people to remain alert to anything suspicious and be conscious of people around the place at all times. Residents should also check the security measures in place at their homes, especially if they are planning to be away from the premises for any length of time.

30 seconds. Too long.

7 seconds. Too short.

Police in Forest Woods are urging local residents to be vigilant and ensure that their houses are secure after a spate of attempted burglaries in the area. 15 seconds. Just right.

After Nightwatch…

…comes the Daywatch (Dnevnoy dozor)

Trailer is here. Won’t make any converts of anyone who didn’t enjoy the first film but damn me, it looks like more of the same only with added KA-CHOW! Unfortunately, it’s not released in the UK until the beginning of October.

Wonder if there’s any significance in using a mix of Rob Zombie’s “Living Dead Girl” as the soundtrack other than it’s kewl?

Another Version of the Truth

While deleting spam this morning, I noticed one of the emails had not been picked up by spam filter and been appropriately tagged. This happens from time to time but the curious thing about this email was the subject line which, curiously, was both spelled and punctuated correctly. It simply read

“YOU HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED AS UN-AMERICAN”

“Well done,” I thought to myself. “Am I bovvered?” I thought secondly.

Trailer Park

Some old, some new.

First up there’s Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (.MOV, 9.6Mb). This definitely looks like it’s going to be darker than any of it’s predecessors and rightly so. It’s being directed by David Yates who has done nothing that I’ve seen or heard of before (with the exception of a few episodes of The Bill and The Girl in the Cafe, a one off BBC drama with Bill Nighy and Kelly McDonald). No doubt I’ll be going to see this at some stage.

Picture Books

I logged into Flickr today for the first time in I don’t know how long (and boy do I have some issues with Yahoo at the moment). In my inbox was a message from an Argentinian publisher or, rather, a second message. He’d emailed me back in November and I never got around to replying so was surprised that he’d emailed me again. The topic was regarding permission to use this photo in an educational book that his company is publishing.

Bubble Cave

So I just replied (several months late) and said, sure go ahead. See - I knew if I sat around and did absolutely fuck all then great things were bound to drop into my lap sooner or later.

I just wonder if I should have told him that I didn’t actually take the photo on account of, you know, being in it.

Weathering the storm

I went out for my first run of the year yesterday and damn I’m glad I bailed out of doing the two half marathons I’d entered earlier in the month. But anyway. The later stages of March always seems to be a good time to go outside with it being early spring and the primroses are blossoming in the hedgerow and the birds are singing in the trees. It’s still cold in the shade but generally, once you get into the direct sunlight it’s quite warm (unless, of course, you’re a vampire in which case you just go poof! and transmogrify into a neat and tidy pile of dust.)

Of course, yesterday it was snowing here. And it was cold. Very cold. Not just “Brrrr! I’m a bit chilly. Better put another jumper on and stamp my feet a bit” cold but real, brings tears to your eyes, “Oh my god, oh my god, it’s so cold! My toes have gone black and my legs, my god, I can’t feel my legs! Don’t leave me mother, please don’t leave me! I can’t feel my legs and oh my fucking god it’s fucking freezing!” cold. Still, not one to be put off by an unexpected cold snap, I went out for 45 minutes with the dog.
