A couple of weeks ago, I persuaded Mrs D. to watch the entire first series of 24 with me as she’d never seen it before. Now, as I am wont to, I ended up on IMDB finding out more about some of the actors and so on and also where some of the regulars like Carlos Bernard (Soul Patch Tony) have ended up. While perusing the entry for Reiko Aylesworth (who played Michell Dessler) I noticed that she is appearing in a movie slated for release this year (or next year in the UK - January 18th, fact fans).

A movie called Aliens Vs Predator: Requiem.

Now, way back when, I watched the pretty rubbish Aliens vs Predator which totally wasted the license it had. My first instinct is to say that any sequel will be just as rubbish.

You just know there’s going to be an “except” don’t you! Who am I to disappoint you?

It might well be rubbish. Except the trailer is actually pretty good. Okay, so it’s back on Earth again which is a little crap but on the plus side, it’s no longer in Antarctica. Again on the plus side, it’s in a small town in America and there’s soldiers, people with big guns, aliens and predators all duking it out. Once more on the plus side, it’s a “red band” trailer - i.e. it’s an R rated film and there is gore aplenty to be seen (to whit - blokey in trailer with alien blood on his face. That’s gotta hurt!) which might set it apart from the relatively tame AvP. Another plus - a kid gets “facehugged” so no holding back and everyone’s a potential victim. And let’s not forget Reiko Aylesworth firing a fuck off big gun is also another plus!

On the downside, it’s written by the bloke who wrote the abysmal Shaft remake as well as some TV shows I’ve never heard of and it’s being directed by two blokes who have only done visual effects before. Ah well. Only time will tell!
