<a href="http://www.w3schools.com/tags/ref_entities.asp" rel="nofollow">This might help</a>.

I'm "lucky" in that I worked for eighteen months in a printing company, doing markup for all kinds of esoteric academic documents to go online (And managed to print an entire online version of the "Dyslexia" academic journal as "Lysdexia", which none of the other people in the company noticed 'til the complaints started coming in) so it meant that I learned pretty much all the entities by heart, and still do.

The only ones that still get me are when you end up going into &# codes, which are a pig and make no sense to no fucker.

I always get it wrong and I never check. Thanks for the tip. One day I'll actually be arsed to check out all the special characters and learn what they are.

Then add it to my CV.

Just as an aside, for your little 1, you may want to use ¹ ( &sup1; ) instead, which is generally nicer. :)
