Time and relative dimensions in space
Dr Who Spoilers abound. Deal with it.
Do you know what I loved about the recent Doctor Who two parter that just about everyone loved? No? Well I’ll tell you. I like the fact that they actually made something of the fact that he was a time-traveller and that if you think about the relationship between Alex Kingston’s River Song and the Doctor then it’s all kind of mind fuck that makes Kyle Reese coming to the present day to become the dad of the man who sent him back in time actually seem quite straightforward.
It’s brilliant.
The virtual reality world and all it’s time-bending ways was all manner of mind fuck too and completely ace as well. However we’ve had quite enough of the Doctor being about to sacrifice himself only for someone to take his place at the last minute for this season thank you very much. No more of that please. Just have him do something which should kill him but which he survives because he’s hard as fucking nails and we’ll say no more about it.

You’re just mickey-taking me for ducking the speculation last week ain’t ya?!

nice post, though I’m not sure I’d agree the Doctor is as hard as nails — surely the point is that he ISN’T a superhero? Anyway, even from within the new series the idea that he doesn’t take on doing things that could kill him doesn’t entirely work — he sucked the vortex out of Rose (though that did cause the regeneration), he was up on the Empire State Building antennae [ignore the shitty science of that], he took on the ‘Burn With Me’ sun… and that’s without going back to the old series…

Actually, no, not mickey-taking at all. I did the same. I just felt it was fair to still give a spoiler warning.
re: hard as nails. Are we talking about the same man who said “You’ve just killed someone I liked. You don’t want to be standing there right now - look me up!” That’s pretty hard as nails if you ask me.
Also, didn’t he say something in one of these last two episodes about pretty much being a god? I know he’s not meant to be a superhero and I know that he does get into these life-threatening situations, it’s just that twice this season he’s been saved at the last minute by someone taking his place rather than just being saved. However, I’m not going to rag on it too much because I’m not very into the dissecting of Dr Who plotpoints (which is also not a dig at you but definitely a dig at some other sites that do take it all a little too seriously.)

Ha - know which sites you mean (and funnily arent they the same same who will speculate themselves into spoiler hell? Bizarre!)
