Weight Watch ‘05: Week 11

I think it might be time to bring this whole Weight Watch thing to a close becaues, frankly, this weblog is turning into a freakshow and is probably giving you all the impression that the only thing I’m interested in - nay, obssessed by - is my weight.

This is not true.

I’m obssessed by films and my weight. But not necessarily together. I’m also still obssessing about diving and have loads of photos to publish, including some rare sightings of me which I have to edit and photoshop in case I look overweight.

That being said, the other reason I should start wrapping up the weight watch thing is that I am finally down to an average B.M.I. You know, that thing that I don’t really believe in because it doesn’t really mean anything but is a fairly good indicator. Regardless, I can safely say that as of yesterday, I am officially no longer a chuffer. It’s taken me nearly 3 months to lose over a stone and a half, but I’m there. And there’s more to come.

Those amongst you who are interested in statistics and figures may be interested to know that a few weeks ago, I measured my body fat and found it to be 20%. Since then, I have lost 10 lbs and am now down to 17% body fat which means that of that 10lbs, 6lbs was fat and 4lbs was muscle. (Of course, the percentage maybe incorrect as it was first thing in the morning when slightly dehydrated and as it’s an electrical impedence test, it’s better to be flush with water to get a more accurate reading so I’m hoping it will be more like 16% or, even better, 15% which would mean it would be 10lbs of lard that has been shifted.)

There, aren’t you glad you know that now. And if you’re wondering, yes, I am bored at work.

So, there may be one more episode to come as 12 seems to be a better number to finish on and would see an end to 3 months of misery and heartache on your part and all of those who have to live and work with me.

Weight Watch ‘05: Week 10

I tell you, there’s nothing like a good case of food poisoning to help with weight loss! Hoo-ahh!

Mind you, I hadn’t realised quite what a putrid shade of yellow our downstairs toilet was. Must get around to redecorating sometime.

Weight Watch ‘05: Week 8

Following a weekend of making tiramisu and barbecues (in which I was very restrained) I was surprised - nay - astounded to find that I’d lost four pounds in the last week and am now at the svelte weight of 14 stone and 0.5 pounds. This means that I’m very close to my target of officially being Not A Chuffer (i.e. getting my BMI* to an acceptable level).

Before anyone starts going on about “Four pounds in a week? That’s unhealthy and potentially dangerous!”, I’d refer you to the fact that this is definitely an exception to the norm rather than the rule. It was also helped by running 10km on Monday, having a very light dinner and probably being more than a little dehydrated when I weighed myself on Tuesday morning.** Me? Rig the readings? What are you trying to say?

I’m sure you’ll be glad to know that there will be a brief hiatus in my ongoing (tediously dull) adventure with my weight while I am away next week. That is, unless I manage to sort out posting by email. And find a place to email from.***

* Yes, yes, BMI isn’t wonderful, I know. But it’s a good guide and an initial target to go for. After that, I get a lot more serious!
** The benefits of, er, evacuation also, um, weigh in.
*** Wonder if work will give me a CrBlackberry for the week?

Weight Watch ‘05: Week 7

14 stone 4.5 pounds.

Get in there!

I had a brief concern that while I’m away on holiday I would do the usual thing of eating and drinking loads and everything going to pot but I flicked through a dive magazine today and discovered that a 45 minute dive will burn about 700 calories (height, weight and age taken into consideration) so two dives a day are going to burn the best part of 1500 calories and as it’s a dive holiday, drinking will be minimal.

Woohoo.

(I’m getting obsessed aren’t I!)

Weight Watch ‘05: Week 6

Just when you thought I’d forgotten all about it…

Joining Weight Loss Resources may well have been the step I needed to take as my weight has plummeted 3 pounds this week and I am finally under 14 and a half stone. That’s about a loss of 9 lbs in six weeks so I can’t complain.

Of course, from here on in it starts to get a little more difficult. That being said, my energy levels are higher than they have been for a while (or is that just caffiene psychosis?) and I think I’m fitter than I have been in a while, regardless of my setback earlier this year. I’ll be able to tell in about an hour after doing my first 5km race of the year (provided I can get an entry).

Weight Watch ‘05: Week 5

Half a pound. Half a frigging pound. That’s all I managed to lose this week.

Drastic measures are called for so I’ve signed up with Weight Loss Resources (again) as keeping a food and exercise diary is the only way I’ve ever been able to lose weight properly. And only 3 weeks before I go on holiday…

Weight Watch ‘05: Week 4

This week it’s back to the drawing board, as they say. Last week was disastrous - I spent 5 nights drinking and ate out at the pub 3 nights and a dinner party on saturday. The hangover from Tuesday night stopped me training (or at least, sapped my will enough to stop me) for most of the week so all in all, I was a little surprised to find myself weighing in at 14 st. 9.5lbs this morning.

However, as that’s nearly 4lbs away from my planned weight for this week, I am revising my goals and also changing my weigh in day from Monday to Tuesday. And to make this week easier, I’m only planning to lose another pound and a half before next week. It’s a good thing I moved my holiday in May back a week!

Anyone else bored of this yet?

Weight Watch ‘05: Week 3

Week 3 is on sabbatical owing to some rather ill advised mid week drinking, a total inability to get to the gym and an absolute fear of the scales this week. A revised plan and update will happen next week.

Possibly.

Weight Watch ‘05: Week 2

As predicted, slight problems with keeping count of the calories over Easter. Yesterday (Tuesday) I weighed in at 14st 13.5lbs - a whole 1.5lbs heavier than last week and more or less back at my starting weight. Not so good.

However, yesterdays return to the normal* (very limited) calorie intake coupled with a 5 mile treadmill workout at lunchtime means that this morning I am down to 14st 11lbs. So a pound loss in a bad week.

Most of the problem comes from the infusion of that nectar of the Gods, alcohol. A quick one or two glasses on Sunday quickly turned into one or two bottles. Each. So let’s do some maths:

If the wine was 12% then a standard bottle has 90ml of alcohol which equates to 71 grams (the specific gravity of wine being 0.789). At 7 calories/gram, a 750ml bottle of 12% wine has 497 calories. That’s more or less a meal. So 2 bottles is 1000 calories and that’s on top of any meals and let’s not forget the hangover munchies the next day.

Bugger. Better try harder this week.

Weight Watch ‘05: The first week

I, ahem, forgot to weigh myself on Monday. Which is probably a good thing as I think the beer and pizza over the weekend didn’t help matters. Seriously though, Wales got the Grand Slam - what did you think I was going to celebrate with? Green tea?

Anyway, my weigh in this morning put me at 14 st. 12lbs. As it’s wednesday I should be about 14st 11.5 lbs so I’m more or less on target. This weekend is going to be difficult, with it being Easter. The chocolate isn’t too much of a problem as I don’t have a sweet tooth. It’s having roast turkey and all the trimmings, plus four days of invitations to the boozer which I’m going to have to be strong about. I can feel some lengthy runs ahead.

Training plan is same as last week with about 5kg heavier weights in each exercise. Still scuppered by a four day week though as don’t have access to a gym at home. Perhaps I can carry logs up a hill a la Rocky or something. Or possibly not.
